FAQs
I’m not fit, I don’t workout, etc... Can I still do Krav?
Of course you can. From its inception, Krav has been for EVERYONE, regardless of age, body type, gender, sexual orientation, race… If you want to learn how to defend yourself, then come.
Do I need any previous martial arts experience?
Nope.
Will I get injured?
All Level 1 (beginner level) instructors certified through Krav Maga Worldwide learn the importance of safety in training. That said, like any activity—from basketball to basket weaving—training in Krav does come with risks. While we do our best to avoid injuries, sometimes sh*t happens =(
That said, I’ve still encouraged students to come back while in a boot or on crutches, and I modify the lesson to their situation, because attackers won’t care if you’re injured. So, you better stay prepared.
What’s the youngest student you teach?
In a class setting, I teach ages 16 and up.
For private lessons, I teach from around 5 and up. If I’m teaching kids, then I encourage their parents to be present so they can see and hear what I’m teaching and reinforce certain principles outside of lessons.
Any Terms and Conditions?
Yep. Read them here!
Are you affiliated in any way, shape, or form, legally, politically, or financially to the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) or Israeli government?
No. Our school has absolutely no affiliation with or connection to the IDF or Israeli government. Krav Maga Central District is an affiliate of Krav Maga Alliance. Krav Maga Alliance also does not have any affiliation with or connection to the IDF or Israeli government.
We of course will acknowledge the history and origins of Krav Maga because where it comes from (Israel) and who founded it (Imi Lichtenfeld) are undeniable facts. However, this acknowledgement does not mean that we promote, condone, or advocate for the atrocities happening in Gaza and to Palestinians.
We get this question every now and then, and it’s a valid question. Please rest assured that your membership dues are not being sent to the Israel government or military.
By training Krav Maga, does this mean that I am tacitly supporting or inherently approving of the same fighting system and methods that are being used by the IDF to oppress and kill Palestinians, and by local police forces to oppress and kill people of marginalized communities?
This is a philosophical question that only you can answer for yourself.
Yes, Krav Maga is being used to commit acts of violence against the innocent and defenseless. However, if it’s not Krav Maga, then it’s boxing, or BJJ, or some other combat sport training. Or, if it’s not combat sport training, then it’s a gun, baton, or pepper spray, weapons civilians also commonly purchase as means of self-defense.
I, Jesse Robbins, the head instructor and owner of the school, square this circle by acknowledging that the Krav Maga techniques I have taught have been used to help a woman escape a physically and emotionally abusive spouse, a kid fend off a school bully, and a women extricate herself from the unwanted advances of a stranger. And, this is just to provide a few examples of how our students have been able to use Krav Maga for its intended purpose: escape and survive.
